Muskrat trapping season begins November 10th…
The Association continues to experience significant muskrat damage near many of our common dock areas. There is a serious risk that these areas will become unsafe and unusable, thereby limiting the docks available to non-waterfront owners. Muskrat tunnels are several feet in length and cause sinkholes and very unstable ground. A breeding pair of muskrats can have 6-8 litters of 6-8 pups every season!
It is important that we trap at the common areas, but also where Members are experiencing muskrats at their own waterfront.
Most importantly, it is important that all Members remove vegetation and leaves from their lake shore which serves as a food source for muskrats. Muskrats feed on the roots of cattails and weeds. This removal also helps avoid the creation of muck along your shoreline.
Muskrat trapping season begins November 10, and individual Members who have personal muskrat problems should contact Joe Albin as soon as possible and your area will be included in the trapping efforts. You may email Joe at gi.joe.albin@gmail.com or text him at (616) 334-0700. You should provide him with your name, lake address, and contact information. Muskrat trapping continues until March and Joe will be trapping as weather and ice permits.
Thank you for your cooperation and caution in the common areas while we attempt to work together and resolve the damage created in our common areas.
