Several Members have inquired about payment of our Association street light bill after seeing in the latest Winfield Township Minutes a motion to remove 12 streetlights within the Association for nonpayment. Much discussion and research has been done by the Board of Directors over the last year regarding these 12 street lights. The lights were installed several years ago and Consumers Energy has always invoiced the Township for the street lights. Historically the Township has paid the Consumers invoices and then invoiced the Association near the end of the year in arrears, for the invoices paid for the year to date.
After 2018 Association budgeting and cuts, our LSA Treasurer received word from the Township they wished to unilaterally change the historical payment process and requested the Association prepay the Consumers Energy street light bill for 2018. After just paying the annual $2,000 invoice for 2017 in April as budgeted and in compliance with payment practice for many years, the Association was not in a position to prepay another $2,000 for 2018 invoicing in May. The Township Minutes correctly reflect discussions with the Association Board of Directors, but the Township would not agree to any other form of invoicing, i.e. monthly, or an acceptable transition from the historical invoicing process.
At its October Board of Directors meeting (before the Township meeting), the Board approved a $1,000 payment to the Township to bring us current on payment for electrical services received to date since May, and our Treasurer asked that the Township work with Consumers to separate out the 12 street lights within the Association and bill the Association directly going forward.
Payment has been made to the Township for the streetlight service to date, without interruption, and the Association has yet to hear from the Township on future invoicing. Follow up and discussions continue between the Board and Township.
Members are encouraged to attend LSA Board meetings where this topic, and other important topics, are discussed. The next LSA Board meeting is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. on Monday, November 12, at the Pavilion.
Please feel free to contact an Association Board Member if you have additional questions regarding our streetlights.
